DESIREE (Group X – Coordinator)

Living a healthy active lifestyle has always been a top priority in my day to day living.  Ever since I can remember I have been involved in some kind of activity.  I started dancing at the young age of 4 and continued on that path for 17 years before it came to a close. I’ve played every sport under the sun from basketball to football and in the past couple of years have become heavily involved with baseball and snowmobiling.  I love the pure adrenaline rush you can receive and the feeling afterward when engaging in high-intensity activity.  My love of sports, fitness, and health drove me to pursue post-secondary education within the field.  In 3 years I graduated from our local college with a dual diploma, one in Personal Training & Instruction and the other in Exercise Science.  Soon after, I became certified as a personal trainer with the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology (gold standard) and have held the certification for the past 3 years.

TAM

I am a B.C. girl born and raised. I started working in the fitness industry in 2001, here in Cranbrook. I remember my mom watching fitness videos when I was young, and I would pretend to be the teacher. I have now been the teacher for nearly 20 years. I am thankful to share what I love doing with others.  Attending any of my fitness classes you should expect to be pushed out of your comfort zone, in a fun, non-intimidating way.

When I am not at the gym you can find me out on my bike, or work in the yard. I am proud to call Cranbrook, and Fitness Inc. my home.

JOSEE

Born and raised in a French district in our nation’s capital, I am fully bilingual in French and English. I started ballet lessons at age 1 and a half.  By the time I was 11 years old I was in pre-professional ballet dance school in Montreal with “Les Grands ballets canadiens”. I was trained in Classical Ballet, National Dance, Spanish, Jazz and Modern Dance, At 15 I auditioned, was accepted and set to tour all major Canadian cities in The Nutcracker production with “Les grands ballets canadiens” for a 2 month period, when I unexpectedly lost my father to suicide and decided not to go on tour. I also learned during those months, that repetitive knee injury complications would prevent me from pursuing my ballet career.  During high School and college I got into sports and fitness to compensate. 25 years later, I discovered Zumba and was finally reunited with dance! I got my first license and started teaching Zumba in the Circuit at Curves in Cranbrook and Kimberley.

I managed the Cranbrook Curves fitness facility for over 5 years… I graduated in Ontario in 1994 from the Social Work and Gerontology programs.  I have schooling background in kinesiology and nutrition from Baylor University in Texas.  In addition to this, I worked at Joseph Creek Care Village as a rehab-assistant, contracted through The Kootenay Therapy Centre.  I enjoy volunteering my time at all community events, festivals and fundraisers in the Cranbrook area, leading attendees into some Zumba fun.  I also teach Zumba in elementary schools regularly as well as Cranbrook Community living, Realm and the Boys & Girls Club.

KRISTA

I have been teaching yoga for just under 5 years. I moved to Calgary for 6 weeks and took my YTT at Yoga Passage with absolutely amazing facilitators, including the owner of yoga passage, an orthopedic surgeon who taught and tested us on all our anatomy, and a yoga nidra enthusiast. While we were mainly taught the 8 limbs from the ashtanga practice, we learnt many different styles, techniques and hands-on adjustments. I am also the owner of Glow Yoga and Wellness in town and feel beyond grateful that I get to share a practice I have such a heart and connection with so many different people. Coming into the gym environment allows me to meet and share with a whole new group that may not have ventured into a yoga studio on their own and I love that.

TARA

I’m a wildlife management specialist with the BC Government. My job is actually in Victoria but I get to live in Cranbrook! My partner Andrew and I have a chocolate lab puppy who we’re introducing to hiking, biking, skiing and climbing adventures. I love being outside exploring the Kootenays or other parts of the world on my bike or in hiking boots. I’ve bike toured around Ecuador, Cuba, Scotland and Italy, and many places in Canada and the US including Quebec and Oregon. My parents introduced my sister and me to bike touring when we were young – starting with a hilly trip from Jasper to Banff. This fall I’ll be heading off to tour around southern Spain! I love the positive energy of my spin class participants – you keep me going! My classes generally have a mix of hill climbs and intervals to build muscle strength and overall fitness. I’m always on the lookout for new music to keep classes fresh.
